One day after Dallas Police Chief Eddie García surprised many by confirming he’s leaving for Austin, police officials are already pointing to five possible replacements to lead the nation’s ninth largest police force.

DPD Chief Eddie Garcia is retiring from law enforcement and headed to Austin for a new job in city government.

Eddie Garcia, who joined Dallas police as chief in 2021, is stepping down, sources told WFAA. He's expected to follow T.C. Broadnax, former Dallas city manager, to Austin for a job in city government.

A Dallas County District judge on Thursday denied Attorney General Ken Paxton’s attempt to block a new State Fair of Texas policy restricting who can bring guns to the 24-day event. The ban will go into effect when the fair kicks off next week.

Attorney General Ken Paxton's office wanted a judge to put a stop to the State Fair's gun ban before the fair opens Sept. 27.

Texas AG Ken Paxton filed a lawsuit against the State Fair of Texas and the city of Dallas late last month over the fair's policy that prohibits most visitors from carrying guns or other weapons.
